‘The American Dragon’ is taking a well-earned break.

At AEW Dynasty on April 21st, Bryan Danielson took on Will Ospreay in a match that more than lived up to its ‘Dream Match’ billing, with many labelling the bout the greatest match to have ever taken place on American soil. During the match, Ospreay delivered a Storm Driver to Danielson, who proceded to sell the manoeuvre as if he’d sustained a significant injury.

Danielson has been absent from AEW television since the bout, and it today’s edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer provided an update on his status, revealing that his injury simply part of a storyline, although Danielson is also believed to be taking a well-earned break.

“Bryan Danielson is taking time off as they are using the Storm Driver spot in the Ospreay match with the idea he has a neck injury. The move was actually done safely and Danielson landed on his back. But Ospreay is doing an angle that because of what happened to Danielson, he’s never doing the move again. It’s all storyline but Danielson has been going at it hard so he’s going to be getting a break.”

Following the bout, Ospreay revealed that he is retiring the Storm Driver due to the injuries sustained by his opponent, with this playing into tension building between the former IWGP World Heavyweight Champion and Don Callis.

As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on future plans for Bryan Danielson as soon as we hear more.
