Earlier this month, Fightful Select reported that former TNT Champion Miro is currently fully healed, and his AEW absence has been down to a lack of creative. The man formerly known as Rusev in WWE has competed in only four matches for AEW in 2022, with the most recent bout being a six-man tag-team match in September at the annual All Out PPV.
During the latest episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer provided yet another update on Miro, further confirming that creative differences have prevented him from making a return to weekly television, although he also noted that interest in a return to WWE could also be playing a factor.
“The Miro story obviously has been talked about ever since he disappeared and people going like “what happened with him?’ And they (AEW), in September, came to him, Tony Khan came to Miro and he had this idea which would build to a match on the November PPV, the November 19th PPV (Full Gear), and he didn’t wanna do it. — Some people it’s weird, a lot of people that come from WWE are very leery… obviously Bryan Danielson being the exception, about doing Jobs and it becomes very difficult to book when you don’t really want to do programs when you’re gonna lose. But anyway they went through and now November’s over, and now we’re in the new cycle and they were gonna bring him back and try come up with ideas for him, and they very well may. Then his wife (Lana/CJ Perry) comes in and says Rusev Day is gonna come back and everybody goes back to WWE (92.7 WMAY Interview). And its like if I’m Tony Khan at this point, given everything that’s happened, and the wife of one of the wrestlers says essentially everyone goes back to WWE, its kinda like why waste my time pushing this guy, I’ve got a 100 guys on the roster who wanna be here and there’s these guys who wanna be in the WWE”
-Dave Meltzer
Miro’s first three matches in 2022 all come within the month of June, as he competed twice on TV before his fatal four-way match for the All-Atlantic Championship on the inaugural Forbidden Door event. He then teamed with Sting and Darby Allin to take on the House of Black at All Out in Chicago, which as of writing is Miro’s most recent appearance for the company.
As always, we’ll aim to provide any updates on a potential Miro return as soon as we hear more.
