Big E has given an update on his condition and a potential in-ring return.
It has been over 18 months since Big E last competed in a WWE ring. As most will already be aware, the New Day member suffered an unfortunate neck injury in March of 2022 which fractured his C1 and C6 vertebrae following an awkward landing from a belly-to-belly suplex. The former WWE Champion is beloved by many and fans are still hoping that one day we will see him step back between the ropes and compete once again.
Speaking on Busted Open Radio, Big E discussed his current condition and whether or not an in-ring return is in his plans. The 37-year-old admitted that, while he may feel good right now, he is still healing and he can’t afford to take as many risks with injuries as he has done previously in his career. As such, there is not currently a timeline for his wrestling return.
“I wish I had more information for you. Right now, there is really no timeline. I’ve been to a few different doctors who have looked over my scans. I don’t have any issues, I feel great, but I broke my C1 in two different places, it’s called a Jefferson fracture and because of the nature of the fracture, it takes longer to heal. Initially, they told me three months. I thought three months and I would be back to wrestling, but things ended up being more complex. There are chances I might take with a broken forearm or finger. An ACL (injury), I’ve had before. I started wrestling when I was 23, and at the time, I was like, ‘If I die in the ring, doing what I love, so be it.’ I’m 37 now and you see life differently and you have other things to think about. I’m trying to make the best decision for myself and my health moving forward. I don’t have any answers,”

The injury suffered by Big E posed a huge threat to his career, so it’s heartwarming to hear that he is feeling good in the current day. Of course, as much as we would all love to see the powerhouse make a return to the ring one day, his health takes priority and we continue to wish him the best in his recovery.
As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on Big E and his future plans as we hear more.
