We now have more information on when and how Bryan Danielson sustained his recent injury.
On the October 25th episode of AEW Dynamite, Bryan Danielson & Claudio Castagnoli took on the team of Orange Cassidy & Kazuchika Okada in the main event. During the bout, Cassidy and Okada appeared to cause Danielson to suffer an injury, with reports later emerging that the Blackpool Combat Club member would require surgery for a broken orbital bone, thus keeping him out of action for the time being.
Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter is now reporting that Bryan Danielson’s broken orbital bone is said to have come out during an accidental clash of heads during the 42-year-old’s recent match with Andrade el Idolo on Collision. It was also noted that this is something that the company tried to keep quiet in order to give the impression that Okada and Cassidy have inflicted the injury during the tag match.
“Andrade went for a spinning elbow and the two men’s heads accidentally collided with Andrade’s head hitting Danielson in the eye area. Danielson actually had a black eye when he did the 10/25 match. There was an attempt to keep that quiet because it basically tells you that Danielson wrestled the match in Philadelphia going in with the broken orbital bone and the decision was made to then do an angle of him getting hurt in that match. This has led to questions about that decision to do that. Doc Sampson, who would be the call to make that call, came to AEW after years with WWE, notable for saving Jerry Lawler’s life.”

While many will raise their eyebrows at Bryan Danielson heading into the October 25 Dynamite already carrying an injury, its hard to argue that the angle AEW opted hasn’t built further excitement for a potential rematch between Danielson and Okada.
The angle additionally opens up possibilities for Claudio Castagnoli, who himself is now seeking vengeance on both Okada and Cassidy following the kayfabe infliction of the genuine injury.
As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on Bryan Danielson and his injury situation as we hear more.
