The former AEW World Champion talks about the prospect of the promotion heading to Japan.
On November 12th, Chris Jericho will make his return to Japan as he takes on Konosuke Takeshita at DDT Ultimate Party, marking his first match in the country since his NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 14 clash with Hiroshi Tanahashi in 2020.
Ahead of the bout, Jericho spoke to Tokyo Sports, where he shared his thoughts about the prospect of AEW expanding into Japan.
“The emphasis is on the growth of the organization itself and how much of an impact we can make. That’s why we gather the best wrestlers from all over the world. In terms of growth, we recently had 81,000 people at Wembley Stadium in London, England. I think it is natural for AEW to come to Japan, since we have our expansion outside of Japan in mind, and I think that something like an AEW raid on DDT or New Japan will happen in the future. That’s why we are strategically focusing on developing young wrestlers and showing the fans something new,” (h/t Fightful)

Whilst AEW have yet to venture outside of North America other than their recent All In PPV at Wembley Stadium in London, England, they do currently have working relationships with both DDT and NJPW, and thus the potential for further expansion into Japan appears a likely step for the future.
As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on the prospect of AEW expanding into Japan as soon as we hear more.
