The latest on CM Punk potentially re-joining WWE has been revealed.
Ever since the termination of his AEW contract, rumours have run rampant about the possibility of CM Punk coming back to WWE. Particularly with Survivor Series taking place in his hometown of Chicago tomorrow night, many believe that, if the Straight Edge Saviour is going to return, it will be at the AllState Arena tomorrow night.
To the frustration of many Punk supporters, the prevailing belief among most fans and journalists is that the star won’t be at Survivor Series this weekend, however Dave Meltzer has written in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that it remains possible for CM Punk’s WWE comeback to be a ‘well-kept secret’ rather than something that people would know about before it happens.
“Of course the biggest question regarding the show probably involves CM Punk. If WWE was to bring in Punk, this night or Smackdown the night before would be the place to debut him. We’ve seen no evidence this is happening and those close to the situation have denied it, but it is possible it’s a well-kept secret.
We do know that one of the key reasons they made sure Orton’s name was out and didn’t do a surprise was the idea that it would lead to people expecting Punk in that spot and they wanted that shut down. If Punk isn’t there the last thing the company wants is Punk chants during the show. From the start we were told that while there is negativity about Punk, they are not completely opposed to it if the idea is it’s something they have to do in regard to fan response. While every creative head has their plan, this creative side is not looking at being combative with the audience like Vince McMahon often was.”

As mentioned by Meltzer, WWE recently confirmed the imminent return of Randy Orton as part of the men’s War Games match in order to minimise the chances of The Viper’s re-emergence being overshadowed by the expectation of CM Punk. However, many are clinging to Shinsuke Nakamura’s cryptic vignettes on Raw as a potential way in which Triple H could re-introduce the Voice of The Voiceless back to WWE if it were to happen.
As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on whether CM Punk is returning to WWE as we hear more.
