WWE star Cody Rhodes believes that current world champion MJF will eventually jump ship.

For months, MJF teased that there would be a bidding war between AEW and WWE in 2024 for his services, though those teases have all but ceased since he turned babyface. MJF did try out for WWE over a decade ago but did not make it. At NXT Takeover Brooklyn II in 2016, he appeared as a security guard during then-NXT Champion Samoa Joe’s entrance. Joe pushing a young MJF out of the way during that entrance has been referenced multiple times on AEW TV and helped motivate their match against one another at September’s Grand Slam event.

It is no secret that Rhodes and MJF are close with one another, with Rhodes playing a role in getting MJF signed in AEW’s early days. While speaking with Peter Rosenberg, Rhodes was asked about a potential move to WWE by the current AEW World Champion.

“I think one day you will see MJF in WWE. I think, one thing I’m really proud of him for is, for those who don’t know, MJF was one of my recruits. Probably the one I’m the most excited about just because [of] his potential, his personality; his overall professionalism is beaming. One thing I’m proud of him doing is, if you notice he’s put on a lot of muscle and he’s put it on safely over the last year and a half. And when he does make that jump, and I don’t know when that is, if he makes the jump. But if he comes to WWE he’ll have to stand across from guys like Drew McIntyre, you have to stand across from guys like Omos. Or, gosh, Brock Lesnar.”

While MJF’s future was heavily speculated on at the beginning of the year, those talks have died down over time. MJF reportedly re-signed with AEW some time in November, and there is no indication that he’s leaving anytime soon.

He is scheduled to face Samoa Joe in a rematch for the World Championship at December 30’s World’s End, which is emanating from Long Island, his hometown. Fans will have to wait to see what the future holds.
