Randy Orton was advised to retire.
When ‘Voices’ hit the speakers at the AllState Arena at WWE Survivor Series in Chicago, fans were elated as Randy Orton stepped into the ring for the first time in just under 18 months. It brought to an end a period of huge uncertainty for the 14-time WWE Champion, with many worried that he may have to call an end to his illustrious career due to the severe back injury he was having to battle back from, and it now seems like this option was put to him by top healthcare professionals.
Speaking with Sportskeeda, Randy Orton has revealed that top neurologists actually advised him to retire during his most recent spell on the sidelines.
“I had top neurologists telling me, ‘You know what? You had a great career, you have a life after wrestling, and you wanna be comfortable. You don’t wanna be in pain the rest of your life. We’re gonna fix your back, but you’re gonna have to stop wrestling’. The first six months that I was out, I had that in the back of my head, and it was tough. It was mentally very challenging.”

With Orton’s retirement a very real possibility at one point during his recovery, any match featuring ‘The Viper’ feels like a bonus, although WWE’s ‘Apex Predator’ has recently gone on record as saying that he’d like to continue to wrestle until he reaches 50, meaning he may have six more years left competing in the squared circle.
