Jacob Fatu almost had a name change for his WWE debut.
Last week, it emerged that WWE had filed a trademark for the name ‘Caesar Sikoa’, sparking fan debate over who the term would be for. Initially, given the last name, many imagined that it could’ve been given to Solo Sikoa as a way of elevating his profile to ‘Caesar’ status in The Bloodline, but an update has emerged over who was originally earmarked for the name.
Per Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, it’s said that ‘Caesar Sikoa’ was trademarked with the recently debuted Jacob Fatu in mind before the company ultimately decided to use his real name upon his arrival on SmackDown last Friday.
“Caesar Sikoa was the first idea for Fatu’s name, but they made the call to keep his Jacob Fatu name.”
-Dave Meltzer
Meltzer notes that WWE’s new regime is much more lenient with allowing talent to keep their previous names after joining the company, but the trademark’s existence means that they could look to use the name for a different performer in future should they choose to do so.
Fatu made an immediate impact last week, and could be making his debut at Money in the Bank where The Bloodline are set to battle Cody Rhodes, Randy Orton and Kevin Owens, although it isn’t currently known which three of the faction’s four members will compete in the match.
As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on the original plans for Solo Sikoa as soon as we hear more.
