Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods turning on Big E was reportedly months in the making.
On the December 2 edition of Monday Night RAW, fans were stunned as Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods were united in shunning Big E from The New Day after just over 10 years as a trio. It came after months of dissension between Woods and Kingston, with the pair ultimately deciding to proceed as a duo while without Big E as the former WWE Champion continues his recovery from the serious neck injury he sustained in 2022. Now, more is known about The New Day turn, including how far in advance it was planned and how it was originally set to play out.
Per Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, it’s believed that Kingston and Woods turning on Big E was planned months prior to this week’s RAW, with the pair initially slated to side with Odyssey Jones before the 30-year-old was released earlier in the year.
“We were told this had been planned for months. When Odyssey Jones came in, they were going to tease issues with them not getting along but it would end up with Kingston & Woods going heel by choosing Jones and having him publicly replace E.”

As of now, Big E remains on the road to recovery following the serious neck injury he sustained in 2022, and it’s unclear as to whether fans will see him return to the ring. However, following this week’s segment, many fans will have renewed vigour with regard to his potential return.
As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on the plans for The New Day following their recent turn as soon as we hear more.
