Adam Cole discusses hugging Malakai Black before he left AEW.
On November 6, Adam Cole was victorious over Malakai Black on AEW Dynamite and, after the match had finished, the two wrestlers embraced. Given Black’s tumultuous relationship with AEW during the latter part of his time with the company, many wondered whether this was a signal that he was done with the company, however Cole has now recalled the moment from his perspective.
Speaking to In The Kliq, Cole stated that he didn’t know what the situation was between AEW and Malakai Black when they had their Dynamite match, calling the hug a cool moment with a friend.
“No, no. I really didn’t (know what was happening with Malakai Black & AEW when we had our moment on Dynamite). So, again, I do have a history of working with Malakai. Just an unbelievable opponent, an unbelievable guy to step in there with and we’ve shared a lot of really, really cool moments together. So for me, all it was-was this personal moment between two guys who have a lot of respect for each other. I don’t know anything about — or didn’t know anything about what his plans were or anything like that. For me, it was just a cool moment with a friend after getting to work together for a long time.”
-Adam Cole
Malakai has since departed AEW, with PWInsider confirming his exit on February 10 after the Dutchman was removed from the company’s official roster page. While his next move is yet to be confirmed, many expect that Black will soon find himself back in WWE, although whether that happens remains to be seen.
As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on Malakai Black’s future as soon as we hear more.
