RVD has given his opinion following AEW’s recent use of a spiked bat.

On the March 19 edition of Dynamite, Jon Moxley defended the AEW World Championship against Adam Copeland. During the match, the current champion was slammed onto ‘Spike’, Copeland’s signature spiked bat. The moment sparked fierce debate across the wrestling world, particularly given the way in which the spikes stuck in the back of Moxley. Now, a former ECW World Heavyweight Champion has chimed in on what we saw unfold.

On his 1 Of A Kind With RVD podcast, Rob Van Dam said the ‘spike’ spot on Dynamite isn’t his type of wrestling.

“The broom of nails. I thought, you know, it’s not my kind of thing, that’s not wrestling to me. But obviously, it’s sacrificing a lot for the business. I mean, that could be said about it. But the more AEW has been doing stuff like that, the more personally I feel like I would rather be associated with WWE than AEW. A couple years ago, it was like, man, they’re growing, they’re trying things to get up there, and then there’s a feel that the inmates are running the prison.”

Even while being under a WWE legends deal, Van Dam made a total of six appearances for AEW across 2023 and 2024. He was seen in all Elite Wrestling on the April 20, 2024, edition of Rampage, and this remains his most recent match in any company.

As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on the reaction to the recent match between Jon Moxley and Adam Copeland as soon as we hear more.
