Rhodes believes parts of his story are not his to tell just yet.
The road to Cody Rhodes becoming a two-time WWE Champion has been long and winding. Having started in WWE at a young age as the son of Dusty Rhodes, Cody left to find himself across promotions such as New Japan Pro Wrestling and Ring of Honor before helping to form AEW, and then ultimately returned to finish his story.
Whilst speaking to Becky Lynch on a recent edition of What Do You Wanna Talk About?, the current WWE Women’s Intercontinental Champion asked Rhodes if he’s considered writing a book one day.
“I would love to. I would love to write a book, but an entire huge chapter is locked behind a wall. Everything I say these days when it comes to that is somehow, I’m rewriting history, I’m remembering it wrong, even though the receipts are literally on social media. Stop, but every time I say anything, it’s the wrong thing to say. It hurts. It hurts my heart because I’d love to tell the story, I just have to wait for somebody else to tell the story and hopefully they include me in it. It’s an odd situation, but I would love to write a book,”
-Cody Rhodes
Whilst Rhodes didn’t outright name the chapter of his career he’s referring to, many fans have pointed towards the Undisputed WWE Champion having previously stated that the full story of his time in AEW and his departure from the company has yet to be told.
Cody was an EVP in AEW along with Matt Jackson, Nick Jackson, and Kenny Omega. He left the company in February 2022, with details surrounding his exit varying from multiple sources in the subsequent years.
In terms of what’s next, PWInsider Elite recently reported that Rhodes is planned to defend the WWE Championship against Drew McIntyre at the WWE Wrestlepalooza in Indianapolis on September 20th.
As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on the finer details of Cody Rhodes’ time in All Elite Wrestling as soon as we hear more.
