The latest update on the condition of some of AEW’s major stars has emerged.
In recent weeks, it’s been no secret that both Will Ospreay and Swerve Strickland have been dealing with injury. The pair had been a huge part of AEW’s main event scene throughout the last year, but, with reports indicating that Strickland was working with a torn meniscus and Ospreay making no bones about the damage to his neck, fans have known for some time that the duo would need to take time out to recover. After they were both on the end of post-match beatdowns at Forbidden Door, it now seems as if All Elite Wrestling will be without two of their biggest names for some time.
Per Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, it’s believed that Ospreay and Strickland are set to spend time on the sidelines, with Kenny Omega also battling serious pain while remaining active.
“It’s going to be almost impossible to keep this standard up, particularly with Will Ospreay likely out for a long time, Swerve Strickland out for some time, and Kenny Omega battling very serious pain.”
-Dave Meltzer
Ospreay was laid out by The Death Riders at the end of this past Sunday’s pay-per-view, so it’s likely that he could target the group upon his eventual return. As for Strickland, the 34-year-old recently wrapped up a feud with The Elite with his match against Kazuchika Okada at Forbidden Door.
Given how integral the pair have been, it will be intriguing to see who AEW choose to focus on in the absence of two of their top stars.
As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on the respective conditions of Will Ospreay, Swerve Strickland and Kenny Omega as soon as we hear more.
