Athena will reportedly be absent from the ring for a short time.

On Friday, September 5, Athena hit 1000 days as ROH Women’s World Champion. She most recently defeated Mina Shirakawa at Death Before Dishonor, and the landmark comes at a time when the 37-year-old had been featuring more regularly on AEW, challenging Toni Storm for her respective Women’s World Championship at Forbidden Door. Now, it seems as if Athena may be away from our screens for a few weeks.

Per Fightful Select, Athena is believed to be getting time off from in-ring action. The exact reason is unknown, but it’s indicated she’ll be away for 5-6 weeks.

“Fightful Select learned from AEW sources that ROH World Champion Athena is getting some time off from in-ring action after reaching the 1,000 day mark as champion. We weren’t outright told that this was a specific injury, if she’s just banged up, or if AEW/ROH were giving her time off. It was stated to Fightful that she’d be out of the ring for about 5-6 weeks.”

Athena looked to be building momentum on Dynamite and Collision over the summer after such a dominant spell on ROH. Many fans were keen to see her loss at the O2 Arena followed up on, and viewers will be hoping to see ‘The Fallen Goddess’ in a prominent role once she’s back from time off.

As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on Athena as soon as we hear more.
