High praise from father to son.
Since making his in-ring debut at SummerSlam in August 2020, Dominik Mysterio has steadily risen through the ranks of WWE, even going so far as to betray his father, Rey Mysterio, before aligning himself with The Judgment Day.
In a recent interview with the Club 520 Podcast, Rey Mysterio shared his thoughts on his son’s growth as a performer, noting a confidence he didn’t have at Dominik’s age and the way he was thrown headfirst into the industry as factors in his success.
“To see his growth over the past four years and how he just evolved into this character and embraced it and just now completely owns it is awesome, man. His confidence is… I wish I had some of that when I was his age, and I wish I knew what he knows now when I was his age. I had no clue. I was learning as I was going. But I think the huge factor in this is he was… he was thrown in right away to swim with sharks and he figured that out. He learned how to swim with sharks. So, you know, I think personally that’s why he’s in the spot that he’s in now.”

At Worlds Collide: Las Vegas on September 12th, Dominik Mysterio defeated El Hijo del Vikingo to capture the AAA Mega Championship, dubbing himself “King of the Luchadores” following the victory.
In addition to holding AAA’s top title, Mysterio currently reigns as the WWE Intercontinental Champion, with the 28-year-old intent on going down as the greatest Mysterio in wrestling history.
Elsewhere within the interview, Rey Mysterio revealed that his daughter Aalyah recently trained at the WWE Performance Center. You can read more about that here.
As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on what the future holds for Dominik Mysterio as soon as we hear more.
