WWE’s counterprogramming of AEW is just business, according to veteran star MVP.
In recent months, WWE have made multiple attempts to counterprogram AEW pay-per-views and episodes of both Dynamite and Collision, with the likes of former AEW Women’s World Champion Toni Storm recently sharing her thoughts on the matter.
Appearing on TMZ’s Inside the Ring, MVP addressed WWE’s counterprogramming of AEW events, saying he views it purely as business and even as a compliment to AEW’s status as competition.
“Man, that’s like Burger King opening up a McDonald’s across the street. That’s business. It’s the nature of—it’s what you do. I don’t discount WWE for doing that because, if anything, it’s a compliment to AEW that they see them as some sort of a threat. And if you’re in business and you have somebody that’s cutting into your business in some capacity, then a lot of the time you do something to try to stop that. That’s business 101, man. And again, when things like that happen, I think the fans win out because you’re going to get overall better quality content from the people who are programming the content and then the fans win.”

MVP teamed with his Hurt Syndicate allies Bobby Lashley and Shelton Benjamin at AEW All Out on September 20, but the trio came up short against Ricochet and the Gates of Agony, now known collectively as The Demand.
Later that night, WWE’s Wrestlepalooza was held in Indianapolis. The two events were initially scheduled to go head-to-head, which would have marked the first time a WWE main roster PLE directly counterprogrammed an AEW pay-per-view before AEW rescheduled All Out.
Elsewhere during the interview, MVP doubled down on his previous comments about having “no respect” for Triple H. You can read more about that here.
