The Miz recalls believing he wouldn’t cash-in successfully.

On November 22, 2010, fans were stunned when The Miz successfully cashed-in his Money in the Bank contract. Defeating Randy Orton in under three minutes, ‘The A-Lister’ picked up the first world championship of his WWE career and it propelled him to the main event of WrestleMania 27. Now, the star has recalled how he was sure he’d be the first to fail his cash-in before his crowning moment arrived.

Speaking with Adrian Hernandez on Unlikely, Miz said cashing in and losing was something his character would do.

“I was the guy that was going to cash in and lose. That was just my trajectory, the first time, the first person to ever cash in and lose. That’s something that The Miz would do, that is that character, that is what would happen. That day I walked in, I remember sitting down and hearing, ‘You’re going over tonight.’ ‘Wait what?’ ‘You’re winning the WWE Championship.’ And by the way, this is close, not close, but close enough to WrestleMania. I remember cashing in. I remember going out, and I remember going up against Randy Orton and beating Randy Orton, and I remember just all the emotions that fulfill you,” he said. “I remember tears kind of, but I was like, ‘Nah, I can’t let tears out because I’m a man and I’m a WWE Champion, and I can’t be crying.’ But it was a cool, surreal moment that you can’t explain.”

In the end, fans would have to wait another two years for the first time someone would unsuccessfully cash-in. Instead of The Miz, it was Damien Sandow who had the unfortunate first failed attempt and we’ve since seen four other men walk away from their respective cash-ins empty-handed.

When it comes to cash-ins, it’s worth noting that the women’s Money in the Bank success rate remains at 100% since Carmella first won the briefcase in 2017.

As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on The Miz as soon as we hear more.
