The Rock has revealed how his iconic WrestleMania 15 match came together.

The rivalry between ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin and The Rock is one of the most legendary in professional wrestling’s history. The pair were icons during the Attitude Era, a period of history many consider WWE’s best, and their feud was pivotal in the success of the company at the time. Now, ‘The Great One’ has recalled how their first WrestleMania main event was set up.

Speaking to Sports Illustrated alongside Mark Kerr, The Rock reflected on his feud with Steve Austin, revealing that it was ‘The Rattlesnake’ who pitched the WrestleMania 15 main event to Vince McMahon.

“Speaking of good guys, this guy helped me so much, Mark. He was on top of the world. He saw just a little bit of potential in me, but also smart enough to know, he’s like, man, we got some chemistry, man. Me and you. And I was not in a position to say, hey, let’s me and you work together. Let’s go headline WrestleMania. He had to say it. And he went on, he went to Vince McMahon in 1999, in January of 99, I think. He said, ‘I wanna main event WrestleMania with The Rock.’ The rest is history. We went on and I went on to have just the greatest rivalry with him.”

The pair went on to share the ring at a further two WrestleManias, competing at WrestleMania X-Seven and 19 respectively. Their final meeting was Austin’s last match in just under 20 years before he took on Kevin Owens at WrestleMania 38.

As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on The Rock’s famous rivalry with Steve Austin as soon as we hear more.
