More has been revealed on Tony D’Angelo’s absence from WWE TV.
On the July 29 episode of NXT, Tony D’Angelo appeared in a pre-taped segment retiring his ‘Don’ persona, only to be confronted by a shadowy figure concealed from the audience. He has yet to re-emerge on WWE television since, sparking speculation over whether the former NXT North American Champion is sidelined with an injury or preparing for an imminent main roster call-up.
Dave Meltzer has now provided an update on D’Angelo’s status in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, noting that the NXT star is not dealing with an injury.
“Regarding the disappearance of Tony D’Angelo, it is not injury related but he asked for time off.”

D’Angelo’s last televised match took place on the July 15 episode of NXT, where he scored a victory over former D’Angelo Family stablemates Channing ‘Stacks’ Lorenzo and Luca Crusifino in a triple threat bout.
WrestleVotes reported earlier this month that D’Angelo’s name has circulated within WWE creative recently, with some expecting him to debut on the main roster before the end of the year. It was also noted that his mobster-style gimmick is set to remain, though certain elements may be refined before he lands on either RAW or SmackDown.
Elsewhere within the Observer Newsletter, Meltzer revealed that former NXT Champion Oba Femi is still planned to feature on NXT despite dropping the title at No Mercy. You can read more about that here.
As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on future plans for Tony D’Angelo as soon as we hear more.
