‘The Ruler’ isn’t going anywhere just yet.
Oba Femi’s NXT Championship reign came to an end on September 26 at No Mercy when he was defeated by Ricky Saints. While the result sparked speculation of an imminent main roster call-up, it now seems that may not be the case.
Dave Meltzer reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that despite losing the NXT Championship, Oba Femi remains in the brand’s plans for the time being. However, with WWE known for surprising fans with sudden call-ups, a main roster move can’t be ruled out just yet.
“Regarding the idea Oba Femi lost the NXT title so he could be brought to the main roster, this is one of those things where the answer as far as everyone knows is no, in the sense Femi is still in the plans for NXT going forward. However, they do swerve people and tell almost nobody about call-ups a lot of the time so people who should know get blindsided. So it’s a no as far as just about anyone knows, but there is no such thing as a 100 percent no.”

Alongside his reign as NXT Champion, Oba Femi also holds the record as the longest-reigning NXT North American Champion, making it feel like only a matter of time before he sets his sights on RAW or SmackDown.
Elsewhere within the Observer Newsletter, Meltzer provided an update on Tony D’Angelo amidst his absence from WWE TV. You can read more about that here.
As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on future plans for Oba Femi as soon as we hear more.
