John Cena may soon be face to face with ‘The Ring General’.
With just five dates remaining on John Cena’s retirement tour before the curtain falls on his illustrious career, attention has turned to who will face him in his final match at Saturday Night’s Main Event. Back in July, WRKD Wrestling reported that ‘The Ring General’ GUNTHER was expected to receive the honour, and that still appears to be the most likely outcome.”
Writing on F4WOnline, Dave Meltzer has now corroborated reports that GUNTHER will be John Cena’s final opponent, revealing that WWE are planning a tournament to determine who will earn the right to face the retiring star.
“Two sources have confirmed that the latest plan is for a tournament to be announced, possibly on the air by Paul Levesque, with top wrestlers vying to be Cena’s last opponent. But multiple have confirmed however it reaches the conclusion, that Gunther was the person chosen for the match.”

GUNTHER is a dream opponent many fans have hoped to see John Cena face since his retirement tour was announced, with some originally anticipating a World Heavyweight Championship clash between the two at WrestleMania 42. While that didn’t come to pass, it now seems viewers won’t have to wait much longer to see them finally square off.
Saturday Night’s Main Event will be held on December 13 at the Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C., with original plans for John Cena’s final match to take place in Boston reportedly scrapped due to financial constraints. You can read more about that here.
Up next for Cena is AJ Styles, with the pair set to clash this Saturday at Crown Jewel in Australia. Earlier today, a report suggested that WWE may be making a late addition to the event’s card. You can read more about that here.
As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on John Cena’s retirement tour as soon as we hear more.
