Cena reportedly pushed for NXT talent to be showcased on December 13.
The November 10 episode of Monday Night RAW saw John Cena announce that the December 13 edition of Saturday Night’s Main Event will not only feature his final match but will also showcase talent from NXT, with the aim of leaving the wrestling business in a better state than when he entered it.
Bryan Alvarez revealed in this week’s Raw Report for the Wrestling Observer that the inclusion of NXT talent on the show was a decision made by Cena himself.
““NXT wrestlers getting matches on SNME was a John Cena call, he loved his time at the WWE Performance Center.”
-Bryan Alvarez
The record-breaking seventeen-time former world champion visited the WWE Performance Center twice last month, taking the time to thank those training there and to hear their perspectives on the business.
Cena’s final match will take place at WWE’s Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 13 at the Capital One Arena in Washington D.C. A tournament to determine his final opponent began on last night’s RAW, with both Sheamus and Rusev advancing.
NXT’s Je’Von Evans is set to compete in the tournament on next Monday’s edition of RAW, where he will face former World Heavyweight Champion GUNTHER at Madison Square Garden.
As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on NXT talent featuring on December 13’s Saturday Night’s Main Event as soon as we hear more.
