Trish Stratus recalls initially being unsure on her WWE Evolution status.

On July 13, WWE presented the second-ever instalment of Evolution, the company’s all-women’s Premium Live Event. Coming just under seven years after its predecessor, the show aimed to showcase the current crop of female talent across RAW, SmackDown and NXT, while also allowing legends to mix it up with today’s best.

On the card, nothing epitomised the battle of generations more than Tiffany Stratton vs Trish Stratton for the WWE Women’s Championship. However, speaking with Bill Apter, the Canadian icon has now revealed she almost didn’t take the match due to her mother’s health. Ultimately, though, she went ahead after receiving her support.

“Evolution comes up. I remember they proposed me to fight Tiffany [Stratton] for the championship belt… I remember I was like, ‘Oh my God, what an opportunity.’ But, I can’t leave my mom. Ironically, my mom got diagnosed with cancer back when I retired in 2006, which she beat. She fought that, and I remember that’s one of the reasons I actually did retire was because I needed to step away because I wanted to be with her during treatment — Basically, my mom said to me, ‘Do it’… I was like, ‘I don’t know. I don’t really have a big storyline. Maybe I’ll just do it another time.’ And my mom’s like, ‘It’s the women’s pay-per-view. You have to be — you’re the the evolution of it, right? ‘ She goes, ‘Do what you can while you can.’ You never know what’s going to happen. You never know what’s going to change. Situations can change. Health can change. Anything can change in your life. I had a fantastic match with Tiffany. Great chance. If that was my last time in the ring, I would be happy if it was. If it isn’t, sure, there’s more more story to be told. But it just felt like she was right… I did what I had to do, and she got to see me wrestle one last time.”

This past July marked Stratus’ third and most recent WWE appearance of the year, following on from a tag match at Elimination Chamber and competing in the Royal Rumble. Prior to that, her last full-time run came in 2023, which included a memorable feud with Becky Lynch.

While it’s currently unknown when her next match will be, it was noted shortly after Evolution that Stratus was expected to wrestle for WWE again this year. For now, whether that happens remains to be seen.

As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on Trish Stratus as soon as we hear more.
