‘The Ring General’ wasn’t a fan of John Cena from the onset.

On December 13, John Cena’s WWE career will come to an end when he faces former World Heavyweight Champion GUNTHER at Saturday Night’s Main Event at the Capital One Arena in Washington D.C.

Speaking to Stephen A. Smith on First Take, GUNTHER revealed that he hated seeing John Cena on television when he first began wrestling, emphasising his preference for professional wrestling over sports entertainment.

“I just remember when I started wrestling, 20 years ago now, I remember that I hated that guy in jorts on TV week by week. I always thought it doesn’t belong in the ring. I’m a big purist. I’m a big traditionalist, and I said it on Monday. John Cena is definitely the greatest sports entertainer of all time, but I’m the greatest professional wrestler there is right now.”

Cena was not the only former world champion GUNTHER criticised during his First Take appearance, as he also reacted humourously when Stephen A. Smith revealed Goldberg as his favourite wrestler of all time.

Elsewhere during the interview, GUNTHER claimed that his match with John Cena will be a passing of the torch. You can read more about that here.

As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on Saturday Night’s Main Event as soon as we hear more.
