Chalamet expressed his hope that WWE would return to the iconic venue.

Two-time Academy Award winner Timothée Chalamet has previously revealed that he grew up as a WWE fan while discussing his work with Dave Bautista on ‘Dune’. As a Manhattan native, Chalamet is no doubt familiar with the Hammerstein Ballroom’s connection to professional wrestling, though it has been almost 20 years since WWE last held a show there.

Speaking to Cody Rhodes on What Do You Wanna Talk About?, Chalamet revealed that he had spoken to Triple H about the possibility of WWE returning to the Hammerstein Ballroom, but was told that it simply is not practical for the company.

“I want to go see a show at Hammerstein. I talked to Triple H. He said it’s basically impossible to make money there. He said there’s one elevator you have to load everything in and out of.”

Chalamet revealed that ECW: One Night Stand 2006 is his favourite pay-per-view of all time. The show, held at the Hammerstein Ballroom, saw Rob Van Dam defeat John Cena to capture the WWE Championship, earning a thunderous reaction from the New York crowd.

WWE Champion Cody Rhodes subsequently supported Triple H’s explanation, outlining some of his own criticisms of the venue’s functionality.

“He’s right, and I appreciate that he gave you logistics because at least he was thinking about it. The other thing is it’s the worst back of house ever. God bless Manhattan Center and Hammerstein. It’s open windows, freezing, there’s no room for anything.”

WWE’s last visit to the Hammerstein Ballroom saw them bring back ECW on August 1, 2006. Professional wrestling has continued to feature at the venue over the years, thanks to promotions such as Ring of Honor, TNA Wrestling, GCW, and All Elite Wrestling.

Rhodes is scheduled to face NXT Champion Oba Femi at Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 13 at the Capital One Arena in Washington D.C., in an event that will also feature John Cena’s final ever in-ring appearance.

Chalamet, meanwhile, is set to star as Marty Mauser, a character loosely inspired by American table tennis player Marty Reisman, in Josh Safdie’s ‘Marty Supreme’, which is set to release in US cinemas on Christmas Day.

As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on professional wrestling at the Hammerstein Ballroom as soon as we hear more.
