AJ Styles says ‘never say never’ with regard to another match.

This past weekend, during the Royal Rumble Premium Live Event, GUNTHER came out on top against AJ Styles in a match that saw ‘The Phenomenal One’ put his career on the line. However, as Styles looked set to leave his gloves in the ring as a symbol of his retirement, the star put them back on and delivered his signature pose. This added fuel to the already prevalent fire around whether Styles could wrestle again for the likes of AEW and NJPW after losing his WWE career to ‘The Ring General’. Now, the 48-year-old has reflected on what happened following his loss last Saturday.

Speaking to Stephanie McMahon on What’s Your Story?, Styles used the phrase ‘never say never’ about an in-ring return, noting that wrestlers are usually allowed to come out of retirement at least once.

“I don’t know. I don’t know. Never say never, right? That’s the saying. I think everybody is allowed at least once to come out of retirement. I’m not saying I’ll do it anytime soon. I’m just saying that, what if my son wrestles? The opportunity to tag with him once? You never know. There will be a time when the gloves never go back on, and it may be now. We’ll see,”

With almost three decades of in-ring experience, AJ Styles is one of the leading names of his generation. The star is known for incredibly successful stints with WWE, TNA and NJPW respectively, and it’s understandable why so many fans are reluctant to see the curtain fall on his career.

Still, while little is known about what’s next for Styles, rumours continue to circulate over whether he could be set for AEW or a return to New Japan. You can read the latest on interest in Styles from outside WWE here.

As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on AJ Styles’ future as soon as we hear more.
