‘The American Nightmare’ enjoys being a babyface.
Ever since returning to WWE in 2022, Cody Rhodes has been a babyface. The star immediately slotted in among the company’s biggest names, and, almost four years on the 40-year-old has two reigns as Undisputed WWE Champion to look back on. However, while his comeback has undoubtedly been a success, his recent title loss to Drew McIntyre opened the door for the company to change aspects of Rhodes’ character should they wish to go down a different path. Though, it now appears as if he’s keen to remain a face.
Appearing on Live With Kelly And Mark, Cody Rhodes discussed the resurgence of true babyfaces in WWE, noting how he wants to continue in his current role.
“For a long time, there were a lot of anti-heroes… and just recently, it felt like WWE hit this stride with so much youth in the audience that it felt like babyfaces came back to life. Jey Uso, for example, is somebody that the kids go crazy for. Sami Zayn is out there doing it. And for me to be able to be in that spot, I don’t want to leave it. It’s so much fun.”

Rhodes’ path to WrestleMania 42 became unclear when he found himself without the Undisputed WWE Championship just nine days into the year. However, he’ll have the opportunity to qualify for the Elimination Chamber this Friday on SmackDown as he takes on Sami Zayn and Jacob Fatu in a triple threat match.
When it comes to a possible heel turn, a recent report indicated whether the company were open to the idea of Rhodes ditching his babyface persona. You can read more about that here.
As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on WWE’s direction for Cody Rhodes as soon as we hear more.
