Darby Allin Reflects On Fall Through Glass In Sting’s Retirement Match At AEW Revolution 2024

Darby Allin looks back on his fall through glass at AEW Revolution during Sting’s retirement.
Known for his jaw-dropping stunts in the ring, AEW fans were wondering what Darby Allin had in store for Sting’s retirement match at Revolution 2024. During the pair’s defence of their World Tag Team Championships against The Young Bucks, those in attendance saw Allin jump from a ladder straight through a pane of glass as his opponent moved out of the range of his dive, leaving cuts across his back in one of the most extreme spots in All Elite Wrestling history. Now, the former TNT Champion has looked back on the daredevil dive during Sting’s final match.
Speaking with Chris Van Vliet on Insight, Allin discussed the adrenaline he felt after the jump, mentioning that the referee wanted to bring him to the back due to the damage he’d sustained.
“I remember the moment I hit it, my adrenaline was just going through the roof and the referee comes up. He was like, ‘How are you feeling?’ ‘I feel good.’ And he’s like, ‘Oh, sh*t.’ My insides were hanging out, got slicing through the glass and then you could see. And then he’s like, ‘We gotta bring you to the back.’ I was like, ‘There’s no way you can bring me to the back.’ So if you see me come back into the match at the very end, I’m wrapped in duct tape. Just wrap it up until I only have one more spot. Let’s finish strong. I can’t go to the back. I remember Tony saying that could have been really bad. I was doing a bunch of interviews leading up to that week and everybody’s like, ‘What’s Darby going to do? And I was saying, ‘To make sure [Sting] goes out on the respect that he deserves, I’m willing to die for this. Let’s go. Let’s just make it as memorable as possible.’ And also at that point, you gotta remember I’ve withstood a million things and came back. So, I really wanted something reasonable to take me out that’s like, ‘Okay, clearly he’s gonna have to chill for a little bit.’ So Sting could have that iconic comeback two-on-one.”

Although it was Sting’s last match, he and Darby Allin retained their AEW World Tag Team Championships at the Greensboro Coliseum. Despite this, Matt and Nick Jackson did become the next champions, winning the vacated championships after taking on FTR in a ladder match in the finals of a tournament. With their win, The Young Bucks became the first team to hold the gold three times.
As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on Darby Allin as soon as we hear more.
