Finn Bálor vs. Dominik Mysterio Reportedly Originally Planned For SummerSlam

Finn Bálor and Dominik Mysterio’s feud was delayed until WWE WrestleMania 42, but could ‘The Demon’ be set to return?

The March 9 edition of Monday Night RAW saw Finn Bálor confront Dominik Mysterio after he lost the WWE Intercontinental Championship to Penta the previous week. The confrontation led to The Judgment Day turning on Bálor, bringing his time with the group to an end.

According to Dave Meltzer in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, a match between Finn Bálor and Dominik Mysterio was originally slated for last year’s SummerSlam, with the plan being for Bálor to bring back his ‘Demon’ persona.

“Bálor vs Dominik Mysterio was way back scheduled for SummerSlam, and then the decision was made that the Judgment Day direction was still hot and not to make that change until later. At that time the plan for SummerSlam was for Bálor to do the Demon gimmick. Whether that happens here we don’t know, but that was the plan last year.”

Whilst a match has yet to be officially announced by WWE, it appears that Finn Bálor and Dominik Mysterio are now on a collision course as WrestleMania 42 approaches.

Finn Bálor had previously ruled out the return of ‘The Demon’ ahead of Elimination Chamber last month, which you can read more about here. Whether a showdown with his former The Judgment Day ally calls for a change of plan remains to be seen.

With the remainder of The Judgment Day having sided with Dominik Mysterio, the faction will be hoping for more than just settling personal grudges at WrestleMania 42. Liv Morgan, winner of the Royal Rumble, is set to challenge Stephanie Vaquer for the Women’s World Championship at the show.
