Nic Nemeth reveals WWE offered him an increased deal to stop him going to AEW.

When Dolph Ziggler’s contract came up for renewal at the end of 2019, there were many fans hoping he’d test the waters outside WWE. As it happened, the former World Heavyweight Champion inked a new deal to extend his stay with the company, though he certainly wasn’t short of options should he have chosen to become a free agent, particularly given AEW’s arrival on the scene earlier that year. Now, the 45-year-old has revealed more on how he came to re-sign with WWE in 2019.

Appearing on Off The Ropes with Jonathan Coachman, Nic Nemeth revealed he’d intentionally asked WWE for an offer he didn’t think they’d agree to in 2019. To his surprise, they matched his terms to stop him signing with AEW.

“My last contract was to keep me from going to AEW. That was it. It was winked and not said, but it was completely understood. I go, ‘I’m asking for this elaborate amount because I know you won’t pay me what I’m worth. I am gonna make a move. I’m going elsewhere.’ They go, ‘Nope, we’ll do it.’ I go, ‘What? Okay.’”

In September 2023, Dolph Ziggler was released from his WWE contract. The following January, he returned to the independent scene under his real name, going on to work for TNA, New Japan, and AAA among others.

Although he hasn’t re-signed with WWE since he was let go, Nemeth made a one-off appearances on the November 17 edition of RAW to take on Solo Sikoa the Last Time Is Now tournament. Whether the star returns to the company on a more regular basis down the line remains to be seen.

As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on Nic Nemeth as soon as we hear more.
