Yota Tsuji has addressed Callum Newman’s commitment to New Japan Pro-Wrestling.

Following his victory over David Finlay at The New Beginning in Osaka on February 11, United Empire leader Callum Newman declared that he ‘wasn’t going anywhere’ amid a wave of departures. However, it appears his next opponent is not fully convinced.

In an interview with New Japan Pro-Wrestling ahead of Sakura Genesis, Yota Tsuji was asked about Callum Newman’s remarks and made it clear that he is not blind to the possibility of Newman moving elsewhere in the future, but for now is happy they are united in the belief that NJPW is the world’s best promotion.

“Hahaha, how many foreign wrestlers have said ‘this is my home’? I don’t think we can really trust that, and maybe you can say the same of our Japanese wrestlers as well. But, he ‘s free to speak his mind. — I said the same thing about Gabe Kidd. If Callum goes off somewhere else, all that means is he changed his mind. Change is a form of growth, I don’t want to be all sanctimonious and say ‘but you said this about NJPW!’ Just for right now, he thinks NJPW is number one and that means we’re in agreement. I can see in his matches and in the way he wrestles that he means what he says, and that’s all good in my mind.”

New Japan Pro-Wrestling have been subject to numerous departures in 2026 thus far, with David Finlay, Gabe Kidd and Clark Connors now signed with All Elite Wrestling as The Dogs, while both EVIL and Hiromu Takahashi are heavily rumoured to be heading to WWE.

After defeating Yuya Uemura to win the New Japan Cup 2026 Final, Callum Newman will challenge Yota Tsuji for the IWGP Heavyweight Championship at Sakura Genesis on April 4.

Now seeking to lead United Empire to new heights, Callum Newman appears to have the support of former leader and All Elite Wrestling star Will Ospreay. However, many expect ‘The Prince’ to turn his back on his former mentor imminently.

With New Japan Pro-Wrestling’s G1 Climax set to get underway in Chicago on July 11, reports have suggested that there could be AEW involvement in this year’s tournament. You can read more about that here.

As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on New Japan Pro-Wrestling’s roster as soon as we hear more.
