Cody Rhodes wanted to wear an eyepatch on WWE TV.

While Cody Rhodes successfully defended the Undisputed WWE Championship against Randy Orton in the main event of Night Two of WrestleMania 42 on April 19, he did not leave Allegiant Stadium unscathed, with PWInsider reporting that Rhodes suffered an eye injury following a punch from Orton that further reports revealed required multiple staples.

Appearing on ESPN’s SportsCenter following his victory at WrestleMania 42, Cody Rhodes revealed that he pitched wearing an eyepatch on WWE television, although Triple H ultimately rejected the idea.

“I’ll tell you something funny. I thought, ‘I’m gonna go to TV, I’m gonna go to Monday Night RAW, I’m gonna go to Friday Night SmackDown, I’m gonna do an eyepatch thing.’ I thought that’d be cool. Wrestlers are always looking for something. Let’s get a new action figure out of it. Eyepatch Cody. Triple H told me, ‘Absolutely not.’ And there might be a shot on Unreal of me throwing that eyepatch down backstage cause I had it. I was ready to go.”

Had Triple H given the idea the green light, it would not have been the first time Cody Rhodes had donned an eyepatch, having previously worn one in 2018 after suffering an eye injury during a match with Kenny Omega.

Cody Rhodes has been sporting a significant bruise in the aftermath of WrestleMania 42 and recently took to Instagram to reveal that one of his doctors told him he will not lose his left eye, which he described as both positive and absurd.
