Bobby Lashley Says WWE Fumbled The New Day

Bobby Lashley says WWE should’ve made sure The New Day stayed for the rest of their careers.

On May 2, fans were stunned to learn The New Day had mutually agreed to leave WWE. Woods and Kingston had been regarded by many as contenders to stick with the company for the rest of their careers, though it was later revealed via F4WOnline that their decisions to depart were based on TKO wanting to restructure their longterm contracts, with the team feeling they could find better value elsewhere. Now, a former WWE star has offered his view on New Day’s surprising exit.

Speaking to Good Karma Wrestling, Bobby Lashley called The New Day’s WWE exits ‘a fumbled’.

“It’s one of those things where it’s like, that was a fumble. That was a fumble. You retire those guys. You take those guys to the end and give them whatever they want because they’ve given the business everything. I don’t think there’s a person in the business that says, ‘Hey man, I don’t like those guys,” or ‘Those guys treated me wrong,’ or “Those guys weren’t good to me.” There’s no one. And we saw that one time before when somebody else got released, right? When somebody else got released, they had to bring him back because they were like, ‘Oh, this is a bad move.’ This is a horrible move also, but it could be a great move for someone else. So at the end of the day, we might see some different mix-ups in the tag team division. It might become really, really strong and interesting in AEW. And if so, a tremendous amount of fans will go over there because they’ll start kind of saying, ‘Hmm, what’s going on? Isn’t this business built on respect? And if you have respect for the business, you have respect for the people in the business, and these guys should have a lot of respect in the business. So what’s going on?’”

Lashley was someone who himself chose to leave WWE when his contract expired in August 2024. He signed with AEW the following month, and, having made his debut that October, has gone on to win the World Tag Team Championships alongside Shelton Benjamin. Having entered free agency, it seems Woods and Kingston may well end up following in his footsteps.

Following their shock exit, it shortly emerged via Fightful Select that major AEW talent had already started to push for the company to sign Woods and Kingston when they become available after their 90 days has passed. You can read more about AEW’s interest in The New Day here.

As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on The New Day’s WWE departure as soon as we hear more.
