Ronda Rousey reflects on her time in WWE.

In 2018, the wrestling world saw a huge crossover as UFC and MMA star Ronda Rousey entered the world of pro wrestling by signing with WWE. The star had two relatively short runs with the company, one from 2018 to 2019 and the other from 2022 to 2023, though she was able to pick up multiple world championships and become a true focal point of the women’s division whenever she appeared on RAW or SmackDown. Now, Ronda has given her honest take on her time with WWE.

Speaking to Complex, Rousey said that, while she enjoyed her time in the ring, she often felt like her character was someone else’s impression of her.

“I felt like I was doing somebody else’s impression of myself. You can tell when I was allowed to write my own promos and when I wasn’t. I learned a lot from it and I really enjoyed my time in the ring. I didn’t really enjoy being under the death throes of Vince McMahon’s reign, but there were a lot of great experiences in there.”

While ‘The Baddest Woman On The Planet’ hasn’t wrestled for WWE since her MMA Rules match with Shayna Baszler at SummerSlam 2023, Rousey surprised many by appearing in three independent matches later that year. Perhaps most notably, she appeared a taping of Ring of Honor to team with Marina Shafir to battle Athena and Billie Starkz, creating a link between Ronda and AEW which wouldn’t resurface for another three years.

At Revolution 2026, Rousey stunned fans by entering the ring after Toni Storm’s win against Marina Shafir, coming face to face with ‘The Timeless One’ in a moment many never thought they’d see. As yet, Ronda hasn’t returned to AEW since the March pay-per-view, and it’s believed she isn’t expected back anytime soon. You can read more about that here.

As for Rousey’s immediate future, the 39-year-old set to return to MMA this weekend as she takes on Gina Carano at the inaugural MVP event on May 16 at the Intuit Dome.
