Swerve Strickland Feels Darby Allin’s AEW World Championship Win Could’ve Had More Build

Swerve Strickland thinks AEW could’ve built to Darby Allin’s world title win more.
At Dynasty on April 12, Darby Allin defeated Andrade to earn a future shot at the AEW World Championship, and he didn’t waste any time in going after the gold. Just three days later, Allin shocked the world by coming out on top against MJF in less than three minutes to claim his first world title. Now, another of the company’s top stars has suggested Darby’s moment could’ve been built up more before his reached the top.
Appearing on The Bootleg Kev Podcast, Swerve Strickland gave his view that more could’ve been done to build up Darby Allin’s AEW World Championship win, though he made note that the current champion is an undeniable talent.
“I feel like there could’ve been more done for Darby for that moment, me personally. I feel like it anchored Darby a little bit too much because we’re also watching MJF go 46 minutes in a Texas Death Match. We’re also watching him go 38 minutes with Kenny Omega. I’m not saying Darby’s not qualified to compete with that, but you’ve got to make Darby qualified to compete like that. And I feel like they didn’t do him a favor with that. But Darby is so talented that now his run is making up for that. — He can make everything feel more important. He just killed it with Kevin Knight. Now he’s about to go against PAC. Then Wednesday, possibly against Okada. Who’s setting their schedules up to go like that on TV? He’s just so undeniably talented that you can’t… like, it’s undeniable. You have to watch him.”

Since winning the title, Darby Allin has been on a tear, defending his gold against the likes of Tommaso Ciampa, Brody King, and Kevin Knight all within the first three weeks of his reign. In the last seven days alone, the 33-year-old has retained his championship against both PAC and Konosuke Takeshita respectively.
Should he still be champion, Allin will put the AEW World Championship on the line against MJF at Double Or Nothing, with the former champion willing to put his hair on the line in an attempt to reclaim the gold. Elsewhere on the show, Swerve Strickland will take on Bandido in the first round of this year’s Owen Hart Tournament.
