Kaitlyn discusses not believing AJ Lee would ever return.

On the September 5, 2025, edition of SmackDown, AJ Lee returned to WWE for the first time in over a decade. That night, she confronted Becky Lynch, setting up a mixed tag match involving their respective husbands CM Punk and Seth Rollins for that month’s Wrestlepalooza Premium Live Event. Almost nine months later, one of AJ’s biggest in-screen rivals has discussed once thinking the former Divas Champion would never return.

Speaking to Rewind Recap Relive, Kaitlyn looked back on feeling as if she’d never see the day AJ Lee came back to WWE.

“I literally never thought that I would see the day. I never thought. I have a very good friend who lives in South Florida. His name is Sam. He’s like a huge undercover wrestling fan. He always texts me the wrestling tea because I’m not that tuned into it. He was messaging me about a potential comeback with her and I’m like, ‘There’s no way.’ — I was shocked, and it’s cool because I felt like a fan. Like, ‘Oh my God, hell froze over.’ Especially with all the stuff that happened with CM Punk. I think when she was leaving, it was pretty difficult. So it’s just cool.I guess right now, it’s this weird nostalgic time because The Bellas are back. Paige is back. So that’s pretty cool to see.”

AJ and Kaitlyn feuded over the Divas Championship across the summer of 2013. They clashed at Payback and Money in the Bank before having their third and final match for the title on a July episode of SmackDown. When Kaitlyn came up against Lee, she was unable to reclaim the gold, although she’d already been champion earlier that year while AJ would depart WWE in 2015 as a three-time title holder.

As for her current run, Lee has been able to add the Women’s Intercontinental Championship to her list of accolades since returning to the ring. However, she hasn’t been active since losing the title back to Becky Lynch at WrestleMania 42.

As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on both AJ Lee and Kaitlyn as soon as we hear more.
