MJF is dealing with a hyperextended knee after taking on Rush on AEW Dynamite.

This past Wednesday’s edition of AEW Dynamite on June 3 opened with MJF successfully defending the AEW World Championship against Rush. The following day, Beyond Wrestling took to social media to reveal that MJF would be pulling out of an upcoming match after suffering a hyperextended knee during the bout with Rush, and as a result would not be medically cleared to travel or compete.

We now have more information on MJF’s injury status, as Fightful Select are reporting that the AEW World Champion suffered the injury in a freak accident following a knee strike from Rush in the corner, with there said to be no heat on ‘El Toro Blanco’ for the incident.

“Many people speculated that the injury happened on the Tombstone on the barricade, which Fightful Select was told that wasn’t the case. Instead, it happened on a Rush knee in the corner. We are told it was a freak accident and there is no heat on Rush whatsoever.”

The report additionally notes that despite pulling out of his scheduled appearance for Beyond Wrestling, MJF is still expected to continue appearing across AEW programming while the company monitors his condition.

MJF was originally set to face Bobby Orlando at Break The Walls Down on June 5, a match that MJF had previously told Justin Barrasso for Undisputed would be his final American independent wrestling match for a long time.

All Elite Wrestling’s Andrade El Idolo would instead compete against Bobby Orlando in MJF’s place, with the IWGP Global Heavyweight Champion picking up the victory in the show’s opener.
