Callum Newman suffered a dislocated shoulder at NJPW’s Dominion.

Earlier today, Callum Newman defended the IWGP Heavyweight Championship against former champion Yota Tsuji in the main event of Dominion at Osaka-jō Hall, with Tsuji ultimately recapturing the title to begin his second reign with the V4 championship.

Beyond losing the championship, Callum Newman also appears to have emerged from the match with an injury. Bryan Alvarez of the Wrestling Observer reported to his subscribers on X that the leader of United Empire is believed to have suffered a dislocated shoulder and is set to undergo an MRI scan to determine the severity of the injury.

“Callum Newman injured his shoulder, likely on a belly-to-belly into the corner. They popped it back in but it’s believed to be a dislocation, and he’ll be getting an MRI probably today to determine the severity.”

Earlier in the show, New Japan Pro-Wrestling announced the initial field for the G1 Climax 36, with Callum Newman set to compete in B Block alongside names such as Zack Sabre Jr., Shota Umino, and AEW’s Gabe Kidd.

However, it remains to be seen how the reported injury will affect Callum Newman’s participation in the G1 Climax 36, with the tournament set to get underway on July 11 at the NOW Arena in Chicago, Illinois.

Callum Newman’s leadership of United Empire has also led to tension between himself and former leader Will Ospreay, and with Newman’s title reign coming to an end today while Ospreay was absent, it is likely that the pair will remain on a collision course in the coming months.

Elsewhere during Dominion at Osaka-jō Hall, Aaron Wolf defeated Ren Narita to recapture the NEVER Openweight Championship, while Shota Umino picked up his first piece of New Japan gold by defeating both Andrade El Idolo and Drilla Moloney to win the IWGP Global Heavyweight Championship.

Konosuke Takeshita was also in action, successfully retaining the NJPW World Television Championship against a returning SANADA. Further headlines were made as Best of the Super Juniors winner YOH defeated DOUKI to capture the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Championship for the first time in his career.

All eyes now turn towards Forbidden Door on June 28 at the SAP Center, although it now appears unlikely that Callum Newman will be part of proceedings following his suspected shoulder injury.
