AEW Redemption Plans Reportedly ‘Kept Close To The Vest’ Prior To Being Announced

All Elite Wrestling kept their AEW Redemption plans under wraps.
AEW Redemption is a little over a week away, with the inaugural pay-per-view event beginning to take shape following Wednesday’s episode of AEW Dynamite, which saw several matches officially announced for the card. However, it appears that plans for the event had been kept closely guarded internally ahead of the announcements.
According to Fightful Select, plans for the show had been kept under wraps prior to this week’s episode of AEW Dynamite, where said announcements took place.
“As has been the case, some of the plans for AEW Redemption were kept close to the vest until the day a lot of the matches were announced.”

In fact, the only match confirmed for AEW Redemption ahead of Wednesday’s Dynamite was Willow Nightingale challenging Thekla for the AEW Women’s World Championship. This was due to Nightingale returning from injury the previous week and winning a Casino Gauntlet match to secure her title opportunity.
Following this week’s episode of Dynamite, AEW Redemption is now set to see Kenny Omega defend his newly won AEW World Championship against TNT Champion Kevin Knight, while Andrade El Idolo will challenge Mark Davis for the AEW National Championship.
Fellow Don Callis Family member Kyle Fletcher is set to defend the AEW International Championship against Bandido, while “The Painmaker” makes his return as Chris Jericho once again faces Tommaso Ciampa.
The main event spot featuring Kenny Omega and Kevin Knight was recently reported to have originally been intended for MJF to defend the AEW World Championship against Omega, although plans were changed to move the match to AEW Dynamite: Beach Break.
With All Elite Wrestling typically featuring around 9-10 matches on the main pay-per-view card alongside additional Buy-In matches, there is still plenty of time for more of the reportedly “close to the vest” plans for AEW Redemption to be revealed ahead of the event, which takes place at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada on July 26.
One person who is expected to be absent from the AEW Redemption card at the time of writing is former AEW World Champion MJF, as he is believed to potentially be taking time away from AEW television. You can read more about that here.
As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on plans for AEW Redemption as soon as we hear more.
