Amazon Prime UK Subscribers Now Have Full Access To Lucha Underground
Certain Amazon Prime members now have access to the entire library of one of the best and most unique wrestling programs ever created: Lucha Underground.
Lucha Underground was a special wrestling program/promotion that aired on the El Rey Network starting in 2014. There were two reasons that the promotion stood above most other wrestling shows at the time on television. First: the wrestling was a huge focus, and every match was important in one form or another. Second: Lucha Underground took a more soap opera approach to storytelling, including how it shot vignettes and wove an Aztec-inspired storyline into its product. Having been effectively cancelled since 2020, it now appears UK fans have access to its library.
Now on Amazon Prime video in the UK, all four seasons are available to viewers:
For those who haven’t seen the series before, the new access to the shows will provide a look at one of the more exciting promotions in recent memory. For those in the US and beyond who don’t have access to it, the YouTube Channel for Lucha Underground has slowly been uploading its first season, and the other seasons are likely to follow.
What will amaze many watching this for the first time is how many of the wrestlers on it are now key members of other rosters, like AEW, TNA, and WWE. Swerve Strickland, AR Fox, Brian Cage, Penta, Rey Renix, Johnny Mundo, Ricochet, and more got a huge push from being on Lucha Underground, and some might even say they owe their careers to the promotion.
While Lucha Underground was canceled after Season 4 for various reasons, many still remember it fondly, and will be rewatching it today as new episodes arrive.
