Nigel McGuinness Stays In AEW Continental Challenge Cup Despite Injury, Next Four Matches Revealed

AEW has unveiled the next four matches in the Continental Challenge Cup, and Nigel McGuinness revealed his status.
Starting on last week’s Dynamite, Continental Challenge Cup is AEW’s newest single-elimination tournament, held for the Continental Championship with a champion being crowned at All In: London on August 30. Over the last few shows, eight men advanced to the second round, one which being Nigel McGuinness, however the Brit didn’t escape unscathed. After getting his victory over Katsuyori Shibata, McGuinness was noted to be injured, with questions emerged regarding his future in the competition. Now, the star has addressed his status.
During the next Selection Special, he confirmed that he was hurt, but that he wouldn’t be withdrawing from the tournament.
“I spent a good portion of my career in pain. And in a way, I feel kind of like I did back then. But in another way, this feels very different. I know this is the end of my career and, as such, this could be the last chance I get to compete in the Continental Cup. I can promise whoever I face next, I will claw and bite and use every legal advantage to get past you and get one step closer to the hallowed grounds at Wembley Stadium.”

With Nigel McGuinness still in play, his match was revealed first, being drawn to face Hechicero this Wednesday on Dynamite. Also on Wednesday, we’re getting a second-round matchup which many felt could’ve been fitting of the final itself, as Continental Champion Jon Moxley goes up against Jay White.
The other two matches for the second Round will happen on Collision. First, we’ll have Claudio Castagnoli going up against Eddie Kingston, reigniting a rivalry that goes back to the indies. Finally, Orange Cassidy will go up against Kyle O’Reilly, putting The Conglomeration up against each other once again.
Once this round is done, one final blind draw will happen for the semifinals, taking place when Dynamite and Collision come to Glasgow, and the last two standing will fight for the title and the Continental Challenge Cup on August 30th at All In: London.
