New Level Highlights the Importance Of Having Interests Outside Of Wrestling

Austin Creed and Kofi aren’t afraid to say that wrestlers coming into the business should maintain hobbies and interests outside of it.

One thing about wrestling is that it takes a lot of commitment to succeed. No matter where they are in their career, performers dedicate their time to making sure they’re ready both physically and mentally to compete, and it can dictate their lifestyle. However, alongside the work ethic that comes with being in the industry, it’s important to have other avenues that allow talent to switch off from the industry, and this is a sentiment being echoed by one of AEW’s newest teams.

During an episode of Close Up with Renee Paquette, Austin and Kofi noted the importance of having something outside of the industry.

“For me, it’s have interests outside of wrestling. And that’s not to say don’t lock in and try to climb the ladder and climb the ranks, and be the best professional wrestler that you can be. But there’s also so much else to life… you just have to have other interests. Most people have more in their lives than just wrestling, so don’t be afraid to feed those things.”

Austin Creed is perhaps one of the biggest examples of someone who has created different paths for himself away from wrestling. On that, he recalled some advice given to him by his mentors.

“I dove into that tenfold because I was always fearful from the things I saw in wrestling. Especially my mentors would tell me, ‘Save your money. Make sure you’ve got something else.’ My trainer, Rob Adonis, he told me one time, and I didn’t understand it then, he said, ‘Don’t chase wrestling because you’ll never get out of it what you feel in that chase. Understand what it is. Enjoy it. Love it. Cherish it. Harness what you have to give to it, but make sure that you have something else.’ And that has honestly saved me.”

Along with his work in the ring, Austin Creed is famous for his gaming channels on YouTube. Plus, the star became known for involving other wrestlers in his video game content, providing a relief from the world of wrestling to more of the locker room. On top of that, Creed has done TV work, like being a host of Attack of the Show, and being on various internet channels.

Kofi, meanwhile, is famous for his humanitarian work, and he’s discussed how much joy that’s brought him in his life by helping those in Ghana.

The bond between the two men is there for all to see, and Kofi recently discussed how having Austin Creed by his side made his WWE departure easier to deal with. You can read more about that here.
