All Japan Pro Wrestling has new All Asia Tag Team Champions.

MUSASHI and Seiki Yoshioka defeated Dan Tamura and Seigo Tachibana in 25:20 to win the vacated All Asia Tag Team Championships on Sunday during the second night of All Japan’s “Raising an Army Memorial Series” tour from the Sendai Sun Plaza Hall.

This match came into being following Seiki Yoshioka’s two-match series with Dan Tamura, first in the Zennichi Junior Festival, which Yoshioka won, and second for the AJPW Junior Heavyweight Title, which Tamura won. With their recent series knotted up, this tag team clash added some extra juice to their budding rivalry. MUSASHI has been a longtime partner of Yoshioka, and they’ve previously held the All Asia Tag belts twice before.

With this massive victory, MUSASHI and Yoshioka are now one of seven tag teams to hold the All Asia Tag titles on three occasions. By the way, these belts have existed since 1955, making them some of the oldest championships of any kind in Japanese wrestling. These belts have been held by some of the biggest legends of all time including Antonio Inoki, Giant Baba, Genichiro Tenryu, and Rikidozan himself.

Following their historic win, MUSASHI and Yoshioka were interrupted by Hideki Suzuki and Shota Kofuji. While a match hasn’t been officially announced, it’s understood that these four will compete in the near future. If they’re able to beat this upstart tag team, the current holders will reach seven all-time defenses, putting them one more defense away from matching legendary tag teams like Strong BJ and Nexsteam.

Following this match, Jun and Rei Saito successfully defended their AJPW World Tag Team Championships against Yuma Anzai and Yuma Aoyagi after 31:32, which is the longest tag title clash in three years. This was their third successful defense in their third reign.

With their latest win, the Saito Brothers will enter AJPW’s upcoming Real World Tag League as the reigning world tag champs, and the front runners to potentially win this hellacious tournament for the second time in their careers.
