AZM To Challenge Persephone For CMLL Women’s World Title On Sunday

AZM has a big title opportunity this Sunday.
CMLL unveiled the card for their upcoming Domingo Familiar event for October 18. The main event of the show will see one half of the Goddesses of STARDOM champions, AZM, challenge Persephone for the CMLL World Women’s Championship.
AZM is one of multiple STARDOM wrestlers who have and will roll into Arena Mexico ahead of CMLL’s upcoming 2026 Women’s Grand Prix show on October 23, so naturally CMLL wanted to utilize AZM in a big spot.
The last time AZM had challenged for any world championship was way back on September 27 last year when she fought for the World of STARDOM belt against Saya Kamitani. She lost the match and the NJPW STRONG Women’s belt that day. Ever since then, she has been competing mostly in her home promotion’s tag team division.
As for her opponent, Persephone has reigned as CMLL Women’s World champ since she defeated Mercedes Moné for it on March 6. She has subsequently defended the title against the likes of Tessa Blanchard, Billie Starkz, and AZM’s Neo Genesis partner Starlight Kid. Sunday will be the 226th day of her reign.
This will be the first time these two massively talented women will compete in the squared circle in any capacity, so it surely will be one of the biggest matches to look forward to this weekend.
AZM is only one of the women who will suit up for the upcoming Women’s GP, here is the full list as of today:
- Alice Crowley (USA/Maple Leaf Pro)
- AZM (Japan/STARDOM)
- Emersyn Jayne (UK/RevPro)
- Harley Cameron (Australia/AEW)
- Masha Slamovich (Russia/MLW)
- Megan Bayne (USA/AEW)
- Mei Seira (Japan/STARDOM)
- Miyu Amasaki (Japan/STARDOM)
- Momo Watanabe (Japan/STARDOM)
- Queen Aminata (Guinea/AEW)
Unfortunately, Shotzi Blackheart has been forced to miss the Grand Prix following a serious family matter.
