Mercedes Moné: Winning The AEW Women’s World Championship Meant Everything To Me

Mercedes Moné reflects on capturing the AEW Women’s World Title.
At AEW All In: London, in the penultimate match of the night, Willow Nightingale put the Women’s World Title on the line against Mercedes Moné. It was the latest in their series of bouts since “The CEO” came into the company, with their other singles matches being over the TBS Championship with the score at one apiece heading into Wembley Stadium. That night, though, it was Mercedes who was able to win the promotion’s top women’s title, and she’s now looked back on what it meant.
Writing in her Moné Mag, Mercedes Moné reflected on attending All In as a fan in 2023, and the journey she’d been on in the three years since.
“Winning the AEW Women’s World Championship meant everything to me. Three years earlier, I had been sitting at All In as a fan, unsure of where I stood in wrestling or where my career was going next. I didn’t have all the answers, but I remember watching AEW that night and knowing in my heart that it was the place for me. To return to Wembley three years later and become the Women’s World Champion was something I could never have imagined unfolding quite that way.”

Of course, prior to her win on August 30, the AEW Women’s World Championship was the one title that had eluded Mercedes Moné throughout her stint with the company. In fact, the star went on a run in which she amassed over 13 physical championship belts across AEW, NJPW, CMLL, ROH, and a myriad of other promotions all while being unable to win the one she perhaps wanted more than most. This, though, made her win over Willow Nightingale under the Wembley arches all the more poignant.
So far in her reign, Mercedes has notched two successful defences of her title, one over Queen Aminata and the other over Thekla respectively. Up next, she’ll look to retain over the Death Riders’ Marina Shafir at Full Gear on November 14.
