This past Monday’s edition of Raw saw the highly anticipated return of Johnny Gargano, with the former NXT Champion having been absent from in-ring action entirely since departing his former home in December of last year. During his absence, many fans speculated that Gargano may eventually show up in All Elite Wrestling, however when Triple H became WWE’s new Head of Talent Relations and Head of Creative, the expectations quickly shifted to a likely WWE return.

During the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer provided an insight into why Gargano never became “All Elite” despite interest from certain individuals, as well as noting that the company also hold an interest in Gargano’s wife Candice LeRae.

“For whatever reason, AEW didn’t go after him and had a long time to make him an offer. There were those in AEW interested but in the end Tony Khan had to make decisions of who he wanted. There was also interest in Candice LaRae from AEW but not sure if they’ve pursued it hard or what her current status would be.”

Time will tell as to whether LeRae will follow her husband back to WWE or make the jump to AEW when she feels ready to return to the ring.

Midway through his initial promo upon his return, Gargano was interrupted by his former The Way stablemate and Mr Money in the Bank Austin Theory, with the two appearing to be on the same page once again before Gargano superkicked the young star. With Clash at the Castle just over a week away, Cardiff may be a likely destination for the pair’s eventual showdown.
