AEW announcers couldn’t mention Andrade after his return.
Earlier this week, it was revealed on Wrestling Observer Radio that WWE had sent a legal letter to AEW regarding Andrade’s non-compete clause, explaining why the 35-year-old had been off-screen since October 1. Still, fans picked up on the company not acknowledging the star’s return in any way, and it’s now been clarified as to why that’s the case.
In a new update, Dave Meltzer wrote in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter that AEW’s announcers have been told not to mention Andrade or his angle with Kenny Omega.
“We were told the announcers were instructed not to mention his name or bring up the angle.”

AEW haven’t been the only promotion to be affected by Andrade’s non-compete clause, as the star has pulled out of his match with LA Park for Mucha Lucha Atlanta, initially set for October 25. However, as of writing, Andrade’s appearance for WWC was still being advertised.
In terms of how this may affect Andrade in the long term, it was recently suggested that he could be forced to miss one year of in-ring action due to his non-compete clause. You can read more about that here.
As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on Andrade’s non-compete clause as soon as we hear more.
