Rey Fenix may be tied to AEW for almost a year more.
The future of The Lucha Brothers has dominated headlines over the last few months, with the prevailing belief being that Penta and Rey Fenix would soon be landing in WWE and some reports even claiming that the pair had already been signed. However, a new update has emerged suggesting that the pair may be finished with AEW at different times.
Per Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, it’s believed that Penta’s AEW deal is up within two months, and that he had decided to leave once WWE made a competitive offer.
“Penta is going when his deal is up which is within the next two months. Officially the story that has to be said is that he has not negotiated with WWE but will do so when his AEW deal expires. The word is that WWE made him a competitive offer so that solidified his decision to leave. There are a lot of reasons including frustration.”
Interestingly, it’s also noted that AEW are tacking time onto Rey Fenix’s deal due to the time he has spent out injured.
“As far as Fenix goes, right now AEW is tacking on injury time which is nearly but not quite one year. Khan made both significant offers to stay but they wouldn’t sign a new deal.”

Fenix had been dealing with a lot of wear and tear during his time with AEW, with an old injury being re-aggravated during his International Championship victory over Jon Moxley. In fact, Fenix called the damage he sustained in 2023 the worst injury he’d ever had to deal with.
As for their future, it now seems as if the team may have to wait a little longer before they can make their anticipated move to WWE together.
As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on the future of The Lucha Brothers as soon as we hear more.
