AEW are optimistic about signing Kazuchika Okada, per reports.
Ever since the bombshell announcement that Kazuchika Okada would be officially leaving New Japan Pro Wrestling, speculation has been rampant about where he may be headed. It became clear that both AEW and WWE would be in the race for the 36-year-old, but there has been no official confirmation as of yet as to where he will next appear.
To provide the latest on the situation, Dave Meltzer has written in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that those in AEW are ‘cautiously optimistic’ about landing Okada, especially given that WWE aren’t expected to match the financial side of things. Interesting, it’s noted that Kazuchika is in discussions with both companies.
“Those in AEW are cautiously optimistic Kazuchika Okada will wind up there. The WWE side seems to be that they are not going to match the money, and take the approach that their position is Okada will want to come there more because they are WWE. Okada is talking with both sides.”
-Dave Meltzer
Of course, given his previous appearances for the company across Forbidden Door and Dynamite, many may assume that The Rainmaker would sign with AEW, but WWE are still in contention for the star until an official decision is made.
As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on Kazuchika Okada and his future as soon as we hear more.
